ADMT worktable and classroom worktable

Here are my pictures. As the videos are of very bad quality, i did not upload them.

The worktable is very efficient as it has a drawer where one can pull it out and put a keyboard on it. It can also be elevated for easier Macbook use. It has a stopper to stop the mac from slipping off the table. Its body is also hollow, thus one can store items inside. It also has a retractable handle for easy carrying.

Ergonomics and Anthropometry Part 1

1) The 2nd setup is preferred as it is ergonomic, and simple but efficient. It is also very sleek and stylish, unlike the other setup.

2) It has to be efficient, simple, spacious and easy to use.

3) These are important as they determine whether the person would use it or not, in a sense that people would use it because it is ergonomic.

CAI report

1) a)The Government will try to facilitate the development of retirement housing, by varying the prices of land to cater to seniors who desire very good lifestyles.

b)The government will introduce a guideline for the provision of accessibility and safety features in the homes for seniors.

c) MCYS and HDB will work with VWOs and grassroots organizations to help provide support services within the community, and provide opportunities for seniors to lead an active lifestyle.

d) Town Councils should make all HDB barrier-free as part of their estate improvement works, in a coordinated effort to make Singapore an Accessible City for all.

2) The government will try to make Singapore a barrier free city.

3) a) HDB will work with market players to offer reverse mortgage schemes for elderly HDB flat lessees at commercial terms.

b) HDB will try to provide more rental housing options for seniors, by exploring the lease of its vacant flats to voluntary welfare organisations.

3) a) I think I can help by proposing to HDB that elderly friendly housing be built.
    b) I can help by getting more people to help the elderly more.
    c) I can help by helping the elderly to get more homes by convincing market players to sell them homes at cheap prices

EQs

How will the elderly survive alone?
Is being an elderly really that dreadful?
Will the youth try to help the elderly?
1) how can the youths try to help the elderly.
2) what will the elderly do most of the time?
How can we give them things to do?
3) How can the elderly socialize with people?
How will socializing with people help the elderly?
How can we help the elderly socialize?

I chose "how can the youths try to help the elderly?" as first as I feel that if the youths could help the elderly, it would allow them to learn about caring for people and how they can do it.

Personal reflections(newater trip)

  1. What are the 3 key takeaways from today’s visit?
  2. Name 2 concepts that you have learnt today during the visit.
  3. What is the 1 interesting thing that you have learnt today?
  4. What are the things that you can do to help with water conservation in Singapore.
1) I learned about the 4 national taps, how newater came about and learned a little about reverse osmosis.
2) I learned that reverse osmosis is one of the key factors in cleansing water into newater
3) I found the process of purifying water into newater very interesting
4) We can reuse water daily. EXAMPLE : water that is used to wash rice can be used to water the plants

sustainable designs

  • Sustainable design
    • life cycle assessment
      • Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is a methodological tool that applies life cycle thinking and assesses the environmental aspects and impacts associated with a product, process, or service. LCA estimates the environmental impacts resulting from all stages in the product life cycle, from raw material extraction, production, transportation, usage to disposal.
    • cradle to cradle
      • Cradle to Cradle Design offers a clear alternative, a framework in which the safe, regenerative productivity of nature provides models for wholly positive human designs
    • Definition
      • a design that can last for a very long time
    • design for the environment
      • Design for the Environment (DfE) is simply an approach taken by companies to make business decisions that consider environmental impacts. Some call it eco-design or just green design.
    • biomimicry
      • Biomimicry is a new science and design principle developed by Janine Benyus, the author of Biomimicry: Innovation Inspired by Nature, and the President of the biomimicry institute. Biomimicry is about learning from nature and studying what works in nature, and then imitating these best ideas, designs and processes to solve our problems.

What is research?

research is the form of investigating something we do not know.

Research is important as it will help us to understand things that we do not know.

We can conduct good research by doing detailed searches on the Internet. We can also work with others to give desired results.

ADMT lesson 1: reflections

  1. What is Art, Design, Media and Technology (ADMT) to you?
  2. Why is ADMT important?
  3. What are the skills that you would want to learn in ADMT?
  4. Sketch how the world would look like without art, design, media and technology. Describe briefly your sketch. [Take a picture of your sketch and post it on your personal blog]
1 It is to express one's creativeness and innvation
2 It is important as without it, the world is boring.
3 I want to design a skin for my Macbook that is my type
4 My picture show some people living in caves as no one designed the house yet. It also show 2 cavemen outside the cave cooking, as the stove was not designed. They are also not wearing proper clothes as no one is creative enough to make clothes.
